Abstract

1,133,718. Drying. H. FLEISSNER, H. FLEISSNER, and G. FLEISSNER, [trading as ANSALT FUER PATENTDIENST]. 28 Feb., 1966 [14 April, 1965; 14 Oct., 1965], No. 8595/66. Heading F4G. [Also in Division D1] In a continuous process for the carbonization of wool, the wool wetted with acid is dried and heated to dehydrate the wool and carbonize the cellulosic matter in the drying and carbonizing device shown in Fig. 2 which comprises a housing 8 subdivided by partition 11 into two treatment chambers 12 and 13 which are separated by a bottom 18 from fan chambers 19 and 20 containing fans 21 which suck air out of the treatment chambers, so that air is passed through the loose fibrous material 1 deposited on conveyer belts 22 and23, the air sucked out by the fans 21 being passed over a heating device and fed into the top of the treatment chambers 12 and 13. A pair of rollers 17 seals the intake and consolidates the fibre fleece and rollers 17<SP>1</SP> are also provided at the point where the material passes from chamber 12 to chamber 13. Shoot 24 passes the material on and reverses it and roller 25 consolidates it. The bearing surfaces of the conveyer belts 22 and 23 are sealed at the sides so that the total quantity of air penetrates the material deposited on the conveyer belts and the conveyer belts. In an alternative device wool wetted with acid is passed over two sieve drums provided with baffle plates and fans which suck air out of the sieve drums in a first chamber to effect predrying and consolidation of the fleece and is then passed to an adjacent chamber through which it is passed on a conveyer belt beneath which are arranged fans so that heated air is sucked through the material on the conveyer belt, the material being consolidated on the conveyer belt by means of rollers.
