Abstract

1,132,766. Non-metallic ducts. TURNER & BROWN Ltd., and TURNER BROS. ASBESTOS CO. Ltd. 25 Sept., 1967 [23 June, 1966], No. 12719/66. Heading F2P. [Also in Division B5] Rectangular-section ducting is made from panels formed of asbestos fibre-reinforced rigid vinyl sheet by welding together parts to be adjoined to form a sealed joint which is thereafter reinforced by the application of a resinimpregnated tape made from asbestos or glass fibre. The sealing of each joint is effected by fusing, by a jet of hot gas or a solid polyvinyl chloride filler rod. Before the application of the reinforcing tape the joint is painted with a suitable resin, e.g. fire-resistant polyester resin, and then covered with the tape previously impregnated with the same resin. Bends in the ducting are provided by C-shaped panels and others pre-curved to the appropriate radii. The ends of juxtaposed lengths of ducting are secured by slipping loose rectangular metal flanges over them, thickening their terminal edges with strips of the same material bonded thereto and bolting the metal flanges together.
