Abstract

1,131,857. Sheet forming. A. W. THIEL. 15 May, 1967, No. 22343/67. Heading B5A. A plunger assisted deep-drawing machine has a compressed air generator located in its plunger. In this way a generator, separate from the machine, and thus the attendant connection tubes, are avoided. In the embodiment shown in the Figure, the plunger 1 is provided with an open-ended bore 2 within which a piston 3 is slidable. The plunger is carried by a plate 11 and the piston is carried by a spring-biased plate 14 mounted upon said plate. A spring- biased clamping ring 5 is also mounted upon the plate 11. In operation, the plunger is forwarded first bringing ring 5 into sealing contact with the sheet and then to pre-form the sheet. After this plate 14 is depressed relative to plate 11, to move the piston through the bore and compress the air therein. In an alternative embodiment, the forward end of the plunger is perforated and not open as before.
