Abstract

1,130,337. Stripping cable. R. A. COLLIS. 27 Oct., 1965 [13 Nov., 1964], No. 46379/64. Heading H2C. When a metal or plastic-sheathed cable is placed in the lengthwise V-section groove 24 in the lower jaw 23 of the stripping tool and the jaws closed by moving a handle 10 pivoted on shaft 14 and carrying a changeable upper jaw 16 with an upper part 17, legs 18 and cutting edges 20 towards one attached to jaw 23, the edges 20 pass either side of the conductor or conductors of the cable and rupture the sheathing parallel to groove 24 and the axis of the cable by a combined piercing, shearing and forming action. Groove 24 may be V-shaped or semicircular and interchangeable jaw pieces allow one tool to be used for cables of varying sizes and materials. Optionally, the jaws may be of identical construction with co-operating opposed cutting edges. Alternative designs of cutter with straight, bevelled and curved edges are described and a bar may be attached to the lower jaw to pass between legs 18 over the cable and free it from them when the jaws are opened.
