Abstract
1,130,038. Refrigerating. R. & C. SCHMOLE METALLWERKE K.G. 16 Dec., 1965, No. 53490/65. Heading F4H. [Also in Division B3] Refrigeration apparatus comprises an evaporator 1 having a tubular connecting portion 3, and a suction pipe 8 having a portion 8b of enlarged external cross-section which when the end 8c of pipe 8 is inserted into portion 3 abuts the end of the latter and is connected thereto by welding or soldering at the line of abutment. The evaporator and pipe 8 consist of aluminium or an alloy thereof and the suction line further comprises a copper pipe 9 having a tapering portion 9b through which the copper capillary tube 5 for supplying liquid refrigerant to the evaporator is introduced into the suction line. The end 4 of pipe 9 is connected directly to pipe 8 by welding. Alternatively pipe 9 is formed of steel and is provided at its end with internal or external non- communicating grooves (Figs. 6 to 8, not shown) into which the material of the end of pipe 8 is pressed in a cold-forging process.
