Abstract

1282021 Welding by pressure; soldering DANFOSS AS 30 Oct 1969 [29 Nov 1968] 53220/69 Headings B3R [Also in Division F2] In a casing for a refrigerating motor compressor unit a fluid flow pipe is soldered to a union which is connected to the wall of the casing by resistance pressure welding. The casing 1 has lead-through connections for a processing pipe, a suction pipe, and a pressure pipe. The lead-through for the length 9 of pressure pipe is shown in Fig. 4. The union has a conical flared portion 25 the outer surface 26 of which is pressure resistance welded on the inside of the casing to the edge of a circular hole 27 in the casing after it has been soldered to the length of pipe 9. The inner conical surface 28 acts as a bearing surface for a welding electrode, the other electrode being connected to any part of the casing 1. A further pressure pipe 32 having a ring 35 of solder metal is inserted into the pipe 9 and soldered thereto by means of localized heat supplied by a high frequency inductor. In the lead-through for the suction pipe, Fig. 3 (not shown), the union has a straight-through central hole for receiving the suction pipe, an annular end-face used as a bearing surface for a welding electrode and a conical surface on that side remote from the bearing surface for pressure resistance welding as in the previous connection. The union employed in the lead-through for the processing pipe has a central blind hole and a transverse bore for receiving the pipe and a closed circular end-face acts as a bearing surface for a welding electrode. A similar conical surface is also provided on the union remote from the bearing surface.
