Abstract

1,129,535. Sulphurising steel. RICHARD THOMAS & BALDWINS Ltd. Aug. 16, 1967 [May 25, 1966], No.23421/66. Heading C7U. Prior to coating steel strip or sheet with a one coat enamel, the steel surface is decarburised then sulphurised and finally pickled. Decarburisation is carried out by heating in a hydrogen atmosphere so that the total carbon content does not exceed 0.006% and sulphurisation is carried out by adding H 2 S to the hydrogen towards the end of the decarburisation cycle. Pickling is carried out in a 9% w/v solution of H 2 SO 4 . Prior to pickling, the steel surface may be broken up by light abrasion.
