1,129,155. Carboxylic acids. WEYERHAEUSER CO. 29 Nov., 1965 [3 March, 1965], No. 50546/65. Heading C2C. Acids are recovered from a mixture of sodium, potassium, magnesium, ammonium and calcium acetates, formates and propionates by passing the mixture of acid salts in powdered form counter-currently to a gas containing sulphur dioxide and water, and recovering the acids. A reaction temperature between 60‹ and 325‹ C. is used and the sulphur dioxide is in excess of the stoichiometric quantity and the water vapour about sufficient to convert the acid salts to the acids, which are separated by distillation.
