1,125,562. Reciprocating motors and pumps. BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP (OPERATING) Ltd. Dec. 1965 [Sept. 2, 1964 (2)], Nos.35953/64 and 50807/65. Heading F1A. In a hydraulic motor or pump, e.g. for a vehicle wheel, having a cylinder 11, Fig.2, and multi-lobed cam tracks 14, 14a on a housing 13, the cylinder block and housing being relatively rotatable, two or more banks of pistons 21 act on the cam tracks through followers 25, 26 on links 27 pivoted on the cylinder block, and a pintle valve 34 coupled to the housing through splines 33 is axially movable to supply either all of the cylinders or only some of them. In Fig.2, adjacent pairs of cylinders 19, 20 are connected and have a common port 35, the ports 35 of successive pairs of cylinders being spaced axially so as to form two groups of ports, both groups being supplied by the pintle valve in its position shown, and only one group when the valve is moved to the right, Fig. 3 (not shown). The cylinders not in operation are connected to exhaust (motor). The valve may be moved hydraulically or mechanically against the spring shown. In Fig. 11, the cylinders have individual ports 135 which register with valve ports 137, 137a or 143, 143a in the full capacity valve position shown. When the valve is moved to its half-capacity position, cylinders 120 register with valve ports 153 or 154 and cylinders 119 are connected to discharge via groove 144.
