[Also in Division C4] To manufacture an electrically insulating glass body coloured black in bulk for use as a mask in opto-electrio circuits, a transparent glass support having at least 1% by weight of one or more compounds acting as eleotrondonors is brought into surface contact with silver ions at a temperature which is not more than 100‹ C. below the annealing temperature of the glass, at which the viscosity is 6 x 10<SP>14</SP> poises, and below the softening temperature of the glass, at which the viscosity is 6 x 10<SP>7</SP> poises. The glass is brought into contact with a paste containing silver ions, an oxidizing agent and a binding agent and the glass support may be selectively blackened to a given pattern by screen printing.
