Abstract
1,124,998. Refractory bricks. VEITSCHER MAGNESITWERKE A.G. 28 Oct., 1966 [29 Oct., 1965], No. 48526/66. Heading F4B. In a refractory brick assembly, for the suspended roof of a Siemens-Martin furnace, comprising two bricks, each having a ceramic part 3, a U-shaped metal part 1 and a plane metal part 2 pressed together, a metal stirrup 4 is embedded in the brick in a recess which extends between cut-outs 5 and 6 in metal parts 1 and 2, the recess being so shaped that lugs 7, around the cut-out 5 through which one of the arms of a T-shaped hanger (9) is inserted into the stirrup 4, are free from refractory on both sides and can be connected to the lugs 7 on the other brick of the pair, which is similarly suspended from the other arm of the T-shaped hanger. The lugs 7 may be connected by twisting the corners together, interlocking tongues formed by stamping, spot-welding, or tongues formed by cutting and bending. The metallic stirrup 4 may be omitted, the recess for the hanger being formed in the ceramic brick material.
