Abstract

1,124,236. Wads. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES OF AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND Ltd. 13 July, 1967 [22 Aug., 1966], No. 32318/67. Heading F3A. A shot pouch comprises a cylinder 10 of flexible material, e.g. poythene open at one end 12 and closed at the other end 11, and at least one slit 13 extending from a position adjacent to the closed end to the open end of the cylinder, at which the slits are closed by at least one band 17 having a lower breaking strength than the cylinder walls. When a cartridge containing the pouch is fired and the shot emerges from the gun barrel the resistance of the air causes the pouch to open out by breaking the bands if the passage of the pouch along the barrel has not already caused this. The pouch may be integral with a cushioning portion comprising four parallel walls 22 which are provided with corrugations 23 across their Width such that they are readily collapsible when the cartridge containing the pouch is fired, and a wad portion comprising an annular wall 24 integral with a partition 25.
