Abstract

112,387. Wilson, W. G. July 13, 1917. Actuating - mechanism.-Blow-off cocks for boilers comprise a combination of two complete valves, such as rotary disk valves or plug cocks , arranged in series in the blow-off pipe, the spindles being con nected to a common actuating-means so that one valve remains closed until the second is fully open and conversely closes in advance of the second, thereby preventing injury to the second valve by wire-drawing. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, the spindles k, l of the two plug cocks I', II' are fitted with toothed sectors C<1>, D<1> adapted to gear in succession with toothed sectors E', F' on opposite ends of a common actuating-shaft H<1> carried by bracket flange m<1>. The sectors C', D', E<1>, F<1> are formed with arcuate surfaces c, e and d, f which provide for the locking of one valve until the operation of the other is complete. For example, when the handle J' is turned upwards, the sector C<1> is turned and cock I<1> opened, whilst surfaces d, f interlock and hold the sector D' stationary with cock II<1> closed. Subsequently the surfaces c, e interlock and hold sector C<1> stationary with the cock I<1> open whilst sector D' is rctated and cock II<1> opened.
