[Also in Division B5] A motor-driven hand tool for milling recesses in door, window, furniture fittings or the like of wood, synthetic material or metal comprises a substantially rectangular frame 1, 2, 3, 4 which can be firmly clamped to the work, a motor-driven milling cutter 14 mounted for longitudinal and transverse movement on the frame, a copying member 8 which consists of a roller or sleeve and is the same diameter as the milling tool, and at least one longitudinal and two transverse copying rails 10, 11, 12 adjustably arranged on the frame, the milling tool being so connected to the frame that during adjustment of the rails it can be brought out of their range. As described, the frame has two longitudinal members 1, 2 and two transverse members 3, 4, the member 2 being circular and supporting the motor 6 of a spindle 13, Fig. 3, on which the milling cutter 14 is mounted. The motor is adjustable along the member 2, is pivotable about the member in the direction of the arrow A to be moved out of the range of the copying rails during adjustment thereof, and is also movable transversely of the member, the motor being mounted on a slide 15 movable along a guideway 16. The copying member 8, which is in the form of a roller, is also mounted on the slide 15 and co-operates with the copying rails 10, 11, 12. Rail 10 is adjustable by means of rack-and-pinion mechanism along the members 3, 4 and the rails 11, 12 are adjustable along the rail 10. Each rail 11, 12 has a shorter adjustable longitudinal rail 20, Fig. 5. The workpiece 5 is secured to the frame by a pair of jaws 33 adjustable in the direction H on the frame and a jaw 36 adjustable by means of a knob 34. The frame also has a pair of stop surfaces 37 against which, during setting up of the copying rails, the workpiece 5 is urged and which are at a distance from the jaws equal to the distance between the centres of the cutter 14 and copying roller 8. After setting up, the workpiece is clamped between the jaws 33, 36 and the copying roller moved in engagement with the rails so that the cutter produces a corresponding recess in the workpiece. For milling a large number of workpieces, a template 53 may be used, the template initially being secured at 53<SP>1</SP> and having a recess 54 cut under the control of the roller 8 engaging the copying rails. In another embodiment, the copying member is in the form of a sleeve coaxial with the cutter.
