Flocks [57] ABSTRACT A stop device for use in positioning work pieces which for machining purposes are clamped in a vice or other clamping means. The stop device comprises a rotary foot which can be clamped to a work table or like means, an arm pivoted to the foot and lockable in a desired position thereto, a sleeve on said arm extending transversely of the plane of pivotment of the arm, movable in the longitudinal direction of said arm and adapted to be clamped thereto, and a stop bar movable in and lockable to the sleeve, an end portion of said stop bar forming an abutment for the work piece.
2 Claims, 1 Drawing Figure STOP DEVICES This invention relates to a stop device for use in positioning work pieces which for machining purposes are clamped in a vice or other clamping means.
In machining series of work pieces which are all to be subjected to a uniform machining operation, such as cutting, boring or milling, there is required a stop device which already at the clamping ensures that the work piece will take the desired position. To provide a stop device for work pieces of highly varying shape use has hitherto been made of loose blocks or like elements which are fastened to the work table by screws or like fastening means.
The object of the invention is to provide a stop device which permits detachable clamping to the work table and is adjustable in such a way that work pieces of highly varying shape can-be brought to and securely held in the desired clamping position before machining begins.
According to the invention the stop device comprises a rotary foot which can be clamped to a work table or like means, an arm pivoted to the foot and lockable in a desired position thereto, a sleeve on said arm extending transversely of the plane of pivotment of the arm, movable in the longitudinal direction of said arm and adapted to be clamped thereto, and a stop bar movable in and lockable to the sleeve, an end portion of said stop bar forming an abutment for the work piece.
An embodiment of the invention will be more fully described hereinbelow with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows a perspective view of a stop device.
ln the drawing, 1 designates a foot which is formed with a hole 2 for a screw by which the foot can be clamped for instance in a T-groove of a work table. A horizontal threaded bore 3 is formed in the foot and a screw 4 is screwed thereinto. This screw 4 serves as a pivot pin for a rigid arm 5 which is pivotable through 180 in relation to the'foot. The arm 5 has a longitudinal slot-shaped opening 6 through which is passed a transversely extending sleeve 7 which is thus movable along the opening 6 in the arm 5. The sleeve 7 comprises two parts, one part 8 being axially movable relative to the other part 9. The axial movement of the sleeve parts is realized by means of a threaded portion which is arranged on one sleeve part 8 and passes through the other sleeve part 9, said threaded portion cooperating with an internally threaded bore 10 in said second sleeve portion 9. By rotating said second sleeve portion 9 which has a handwheel 11 for this purpose, the two sleeve portions 8, 9 can be pulled together so -which is engaged by a locking screw 14 which is equipped with a handwheel and is housed in a threaded bore in the sleeve part 8. In combination with the portions 15 at the ends of the groove 13 the locking screw serves as an end abutment for the bar 12.
It will be realized that the stop device provides extremely great positioning possibilities inasmuch as the foot 1 is rotatable through 360 about a vertical axis, the arm 5 is rotatable through 180 about a horizontal axis, the guiding sleeve 7 of the bar 12 is movable within a region substantially corresponding to the plane of pivotment of the arm 5, and the end portion of the stop bar 12 which is to be engaged by a work piece can be optionally moved, by longitudinal displacement of the bar, within a circular range that has the fixation screw of the foot 1 as its centre.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A stop device for use in positioning work pieces which for machining purposes are clamped in a vice or other clamping means, comprising a rotary foot which can be clamped to a work table or like means, an arm pivotally secured on the foot for pivotal movement about a horizontal axis and lockable in a desired position thereon, a sleeve on said arm extending transversely of the plane of pivotment of the arm, movable with respect to said arm in the longitudinal direction of said arm and adapted to be clamped thereto, and a stop bar movable in and lockable to the sleeve, an end portion of said stop bar forming an abutment for the work piece.
2. A stop device for use in positioning work pieces which for machining purposes are clamped in a vice or other clamping means, comprising a rotary foot which can be clamped to a work table or like means, an arm pivoted to the foot and lockable in a desired position thereto, a sleeve on said arm extending transversely of the plane of pivotment of the arm, movable in the longitudinal direction of said arm and adapted to be clamped thereto, and a stop bar movable in and lockable to the sleeve, an end portion of said stop bar forming an abutment for the work piece, said arm being formed with a longitudinal slot-shaped recess through which extends the sleeve which comprises two portions which can be pulled together into engagement with the edges of said recess.
