Abstract

1,123,446. Froth flotation apparatus. ZINC CORPORATION Ltd. 25 April, 1966 [17 May, 1965; 17 Nov., 1965], No. 17976/66. Heading B2H. Froth flotation apparatus comprises a tank 1 Fig. 1, with pulp-air injector devices 2 mounted near the lower end. The injectors may comprise a nozzle 5, Fig. 3, at one end of a body 3, pressurized pulp being supplied at 4 at from 5 to 50 p.s.i.g. and compressed air at from 0.5 to 12 p.s.i.g. at 8. The injectors may include swirl-inducing vanes 29, Fig. 5. In operation, a pulp/air jet 11 is applied via the nozzle and is deenergized by a plate 12. In the presence of reagents viz. sodium ethyl xanthate and methyl isobutyl carbinol, froth mounts in the tank and overflows over launders 21. Pulp is discharged via an opening 15 and pipe 16. Drainage is effected through normally closed holes 22. Deenergization of the jet may also be effected by its impingement on the opposite tank wall, or by opposing pulp/air jets, or by mounting the jet on the bottom of the tank, or directing it downwards. In these cases the pulp may be deaerated in and discharged from another tank. In a second embodiment a pulp discharge slot 29, Fig. 7 and weir 31 are provided.
