Abstract

1,121,688. Cavity wall structure. INDUSTRICON (RESEARCH) Ltd. 8 Nov., 1966 [19 Jan., 1966], No. 2484/66. Heading E1W. A cavity wall structure particularly for a party wall includes a beam 10 which supports floor and ceiling joists 15 and which comprises means to which the upper edge of each of a spaced pair of lower wall panels 8 is fixed and also comprises support means 10a for supporting each of a pair of upper wall panels 8a by its lower edge. The fixing means comprises a wedge shaped rebate C with which the correspondingly chamferred upper edge of a lower panel interlocks, whilst the support means 10a is comprised by a series of upstanding projections. The panels 8, 8a are wedged in position by steel shims 13. The beams 10 are supported by cruciform sectioned columns. The spaces between the panels 8, 8a are filled with heat and sound insulating material and sound insulating mastic strip is disposed between the chamfered upper edge of each panel and the rebate C. The roofing 16 is lined by expanded polystyrene 17 and is supported on timber ioists 18 with a capping 19 over the beam 10.
