Abstract

1,121,637. Casting composite articles. TILINE CORP. 6 Sept., 1966 [28 Sept., 1965], No. 39786/66. Heading B3F. In casting a body 18 around a metallic liner 12, e.g. in valves, pumps, fittings &c. passing a corrosive fluid, the metallic liner 12 has a coating 16 which has a melting point above the casting temperature and which prevents contamination of the liner by alloying or embrittlement during the casting process. The liner 12 may be made of titanium, palladium, zirconium, tantalum, niobium, tungsten and alloys thereof and the coating 16 is an oxide coating of aluminium oxide, magnesium oxide, titanium oxide or a mixture thereof. The coating may be applied by successive dipping in a slurry of the coating material or may be flame sprayed on to the liner. The lining may be fabricated and welded 14 by a tungsten electrode in an argon atmosphere.
