Abstract
1,121,376. Presses. L. SCHULER G.m.b.H. 22 Feb., 1967 [4 March, 1966], No. 8501/67. Heading B5F. In a press having a shaft arranged to be braked by discharging a compressed air cylinder 1, the pressure reduction of the compression air during normal braking is slow relative to that for an emergency stop. The pressure reduction for normal and emergency stops may be the same until the brake becomes effective. In one example (Fig. 2), during an emergency stop a valve 5 with a larger flow cross-section 6 is used to exhaust the cylinder 1 and allow a spring device to apply the brake. During a normal stop a valve 8 is used and a counter pressure is built up in an air vessel 10 to slow down the pressure reduction in the cylinder 1. An outlet 11 for the vessel 10 may be open or closed. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the vessel 10 is dispensed with while in Fig. 4 (not shown) a single valve (23) is used with an outlet (24) the cross-section of which can be varied by an insert (26) which is movable by an hydraulic or electromagnetic device 25.
