Abstract

The retarder is particularly for use where firestop doors automatically cut off certain areas, to allow personnel to escape first. It consists of a body with an inlet for fluid under pressurE, and an outlet, for the fluid, closed by a valve. A floating piston lifts the valve from its seat after a preset period. The valve (1) can be mounted on a rod (9), against whose other end a spring (3) acts, pressing it onto its seat. The piston can float in a fluid filled chamber, communicating with a further chamber via a calibrated hole regulating the rate of flow between them.
