Abstract

1,120,464. Mounting terminals. SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd. 29 July, 1965 [31 July, 1964], No. 30354/64. Heading H2E. An electric terminal 13 is mounted in an aperture in the wall 10 of a tank in a fluid-tight manner by means of an insulating body 18 which is moulded around a waisted portion of the shank of the terminal. The terminal is formed from a flat-sided brass strip having curved recesses 14, the narrowest part of the strip being approximately as wide as the thickness of the strip. The edges of the waisted portions of the strip are rounded so that no cavities or stresses are formed when the insulating body is moulded round the shank. The body is moulded from a plastics material, e.g. polyacetal resin. The body is an interference fit within the aperture in the tank wall. A sealing washer 22 of nitrile rubber may be inserted between an undercut face 21 of the body and the wall 10. The washer may be dispensed with if the temperature is only likely to fluctuate between 5‹ and 35‹ C., whereas the nitrile rubber enables the assembly to be utilized between - 40‹ and + 80‹ C.
