Abstract
1,119,926. Terminals; carrying conductors through partitions. WINSCO INSTRUMENTS & CONTROLS CO. Inc. 14 Nov., 1966 [1 Dec., 1965], No. 50922/66. Heading H2E. A pressure sealed connecting device comprises a header member 12 in threaded engagement with an opening 11 in a bulkhead 10 subjected to high pressure on one side and a lower pressure on the other, the header member having a bore 16 which has an enlarged diameter portion 17 to define a shoulder 18 facing the high pressure side of the connector, the latter further comprising a sleeve of plastics material, preferably trifluorochloroethylene polymer, in sealing engagement with the bore 16 and having an enlarged portion 20 which seats against shoulder 18. A conducting pin 22 passes through the sleeve and has an enlarged portion 23 at one end which seats against the end surface of enlarged portion 20. An O-ring provides a seal between the bulkhead 10 and enlarged portion 14 of the header member 12. The pin 22 is soldered at 27 to a conductor 28, the joint being enclosed in epoxy resin 12b filling a counterbored portion 12a of member 12, and at 25 to a conductor 26, the enlarged portion 23 of pin 22 and the junction 25 having a covering 29 of Neoprene. In a modification the pin itself (39, Fig. 2, not shown) has an axial bore containing another sleeve and pin designed to have annular surfaces as at 18 and 24 in Fig. 1 to provide fluid-tight seals, the outer pin being connected to the outer members of coaxial cables on opposite sides of the bulkhead 10 and the inner pin being connected to the inner members of the same coaxial cables. In a further modification, the member 12 is provided with several bores (Fig. 3, not shown) to enable several conducting leads to be taken through one opening in the bulkhead.
