Abstract

1,119,161. Multi-storey buildings. J. BOLTON. 14 Feb., 1966 [16 Nov., 1964], No. 46657/64. Heading E1A. A prefabricated building unit 1 of roomsize dimensions consists of columns 2 medially interconnected by horizontal beams 3 which have ledges to support suitable flooring such as slabs cast in situ. The columns have aligned recesses 14, 15 and are each provided with screwed studs for interconnection in superimposed relationship, see Fig. 5 (not shown), the units being interconnected to like units at the same level but spaced therefrom by tie beams, see Figs. 9A to 9E (not shown). The units may have a suspended ceiling and carry wall or cladding panels provided with windows as necessary. The lowermost columns are mounted on a monolithic concrete slab or a foundation of grid-construction. The unit may be provided with a staircase, see Figs. 6A and 6B (not shown) or a cabinet housing plumbing and electrical services.
