Abstract

1,082,615. Floor slabs; wall slabs; sectioned buildings. TEXAS INDUSTRIES Inc. Oct. 5, 1964 [Oct. 7, 1963; Feb. 17, 1964], No. 40591/ 64. Headings E1A, E1B and E1W. A pre-fabricated building panel, for use as a floor, wall, or ceiling slab, comprises a metal external framework, metal or timber internal bracing members, and a reinforced foamed concrete base slab. In the embodiment of Figs. 8-10, the channel-sectioned framing members 52, which may have an anti-corrosion coating, support transverse timber joists 59 separated from the concrete by a moisture-repelling layer 63, the panel also comprising glass wool layers 70, 71, hardboard 72, and a cork insulating layer 67. The transverse joints may be replaced by trapezoidal-sectioned timber joists by SC-, or top hat-sectioned (Fig. 13) steel joists or by rectangular precast concrete joists. The reinforcement in the slab is spotwelded to the steel joists, or attached to the timber joists by cramps. In the embodiment of Fig. 13, particularly for use as a wall panel, ornamental strips or plates 88 may be embedded in the concrete. The metal framework can be extended to form a box-like framework, and the slab cast to form one face 39 (Fig. 6), several such frameworks being placed side-byside to form, e.g. a bungalow, (Fig. 7, not shown).
