Abstract

111,798. Hosford, T. S. May 11. 1917. Torpedo screens.-A torpedo defence for ships and boats under way comprises a series of spaced metal ribs K bolted to the bottom at C and supported at the upper ends by stanchions A resting in sockets 11 on the side of the vessel. The engaging parts of the stanchions and sockets are square so as to hold the stanchions at Tight-angles to the side of the vessel. The stanchions A are also stayed by means of chain stays S which lie loosely in bends N near the outer ends of the stanchions.
