Abstract
1,117,439. Gas-filled container for X-ray tube. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 12 Dec., 1966 [15 Dec., 1965], No. 55526/66. Heading H5R. [Also in Division H1] An X-ray tube assembly comprises an X-ray tube in a closed envelope filled with sulphur hexafluoride in which the tube vessel has a coating of material such as epoxy resin lacquer, not attacked by hydrofluoric acid, the coating thickness being such that fluorine gas evolved from sulphur hexafluoride dissociation does not come into contact with the vessel. In an embodiment, the X-ray window is arranged close to the tube to reduce the formation of sulphur tetrafluoride and fluorine by the interaction of the X-rays with the sulphur hexafluoride which may be further reduced by the insertion of foam plastic impervious to sulphur hexafluoride, in the beam path.
