Abstract

As curing agents for epoxy resins, use is made of addition products of acrylamide with cycloaliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic polyamines (see Division C2). Specified polyamines are 1,4 - cyclohexyl - bis - methylamine or - bis - ethylamine, 1,4 - benzene - bis - methylamine or -bis-ethylamine, piperazine and amino-ethylpiperazine. A number of types of epoxy resins are specified. The addition products enable epoxy resins to be partly cured and quenched, curing being completed when the mixture is heated again. Examples are given.ALSO:Addition products are obtained by the treatment of acrylamide with a cycloaliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic polyamine. Generally, the reaction involves the addition of two mols. of acrylamide to one mol. of polyamine with the consequent conversion of two of the amino groups of the polyamine into \s7 NCH2 CH2CONH2 groups. The reaction may be effected by heating the reagents in a solvent. Specified polyamines are 1,4-cyclohexyl-bis-methylamine and - bis - ethylamine, 1,4 - benzene - bis - methylamine and - bis - ethyl-amine, piperazine and aminoethylpiperazine. Examples are given. The products are useful as curing agents for epoxy resins (see Division C3).
