Abstract
A process for the preparation of hardenable compounds containing glycidyl groups comprises reacting epichlorohydrin and cyanuric acid in the ratio of at least 15 mol. of epichlorohydrin per mol. of cyanuric acid by heating the mixture to 80-200 DEG C. without addition of catalyst and, after the reaction distilling off excess epichlorohydrin and the dichlorohydrin formed. The reaction products are mixtures of resins which are glycidyl esters of isocyanuric acid. The resins may be cured by organic bases and di- or poly-carboxylic acids and their anhydrides. The products are readily soluble in hot water and less so in cold water. Their solubility in cold water can be improved by the addition of, for example, acetone, methanol, ethanol or isopropanol.
