Abstract

1,117,271. Label-applying devices. ADHESIVE TAPES Ltd. 23 June, 1966 [25 June, 1965], No. 27147/65. Heading B8F. A strip 10 (Fig. 1) is pulled over an acute bend 22, to detach labels from it, by a unidirectional drive device driven by a solenoid 42. In the form illustrated the solenoid acts through a spring 43 on a lever 40 damped by a pneumatic cylinder 46 connected to an adjustable throttle 48, and the lever 40 is connected to a one-way clutch and through gearing 29, 32 to feed rolls 17, 18. A take-up reel on a shaft 5 is driven through a slipping belt 34. Operation of the device is initiated when a package is detected beneath a label-pressing shoe 21, and the drive is controlled by a photo-electric device 12 detecting the passage of a label. If the solenoid is single-acting, a return spring is provided.
