Abstract

1330120 Manual label applicator HEINRICH HERMANN 13 Aug 1971 [7 April 1971] 38203/71 Heading B8F A manual label applicator for adhesive labels with one- or two-sided coating on a backing tape comprises a bearing 3 for the label tape reel and an affixing roller 5 driving a feed roller 4 and a tensioning roller 6 with circumferential velocities less than its own, that of roller 6 possibly being greater than that of roller 4. A gear-wheel on roller 5 drives a ring gear which drives a gearwheel on roller 4 which meshes with that on roller 6. The label tape is held against rollers 4, 6 by leaf springs 8, 7 respectively, the spring 8 being removable as it is not required for labels coated on both sides. The springs can be disengaged from their respective rollers to facilitate changing tapes by means of spigots on a lever 10 which can be pushed inwardly for this purpose. When the upper case cover is fitted, a projection on it holds lever 10 in its inoperative position by bearing outwardly against handle 10e. The rollers are fitted with silicone rubber rings to prevent adhesion of labels to them. Labels are removed from the backing at deflecting edge 9 and applied to the surface by roller 5 on which the device is pulled across the surface. As a label comes away from the backing the tension in the tape due to the greater circumferential velocity of roller 5 is released causing a jerk which indicates the detachment of a label.
