Abstract

1,116,313. Selective pipe coupling devices. GENERAL DESCALING CO. Ltd. 2 Nov., 1965 [3 Nov., 1964], No. 44759/64. Heading F2G. A switching device for a pipeline junction comprises a diverter plate 12 including a full circle portion 13 of the same diameter as the main and branch pipes and a part circle portion 12 of diminishing area, the full circle portion 13 being accommodated in a housing or recess H formed around the pipeline junction and the diverter plate is arranged for angular displacement about an axis which intersects the centre line of the pipe branches 7, 8. The plate 12 is attached to a rotatable, bearing supported collar 10 which is rotated by a drive chain 19, sprocket wheel 20, shaft 21 and hand wheel 22 assembly such that it covers the opening of one of the branch pipes. The plate is mounted on a pin 15 which carries at its outer end a pointer 18 by which the position, within the junction, of the plate 12 can readily be determined. In a modification the branch pipes are straight rather than curved, the plate 12 being only curved, in this case, adjacent its attachment point to the collar 10 (Figs. 3, 4, not shown). The plate is further provided with stiffening ribs. The invention could also be applied to a pipeline junction having three branches.
