780,929. Clamp fastenings. HAHN, A. Sept. 2, 1954 [May 15, 1954], No. 34333/56. Divided out of 770,552. Class 44 [Also in Group XXVIII] On appropriate turning of a pin 49, Fig. 1, journalled in lugs of a sleeve 1 a toothed eccentric 43 journalled on an eccentric portion of the pin moves bodily into clamping engagement with a tube 6 inserted in the sleeve 1, any subsequent relative axial movement of the pipe and sleeve causing the eccentric to turn for intensified clamping, the development of excessive pressures being prevented by a housing 61 limiting the eccentric rotation. The eccentric is normally centralized by a leaf spring 62. The pin 49 is turned by its bent end 59 internally or externally engageable by an extension arm and which can move through slightly more than 180 degrees to allow the pin eccentric portion to take up a slightly overcentre position on clamping. The sleeve 1 may be extended to mount a further like eccentric device so that two tubes may be clamped end to end, as for the transmission of liquid or steam. Alternatively the sleeve 1 may mount a second sleeve 41 which may clamp a second tube 35 by such a further like eccentric device 45 or by the tube 6 transmitting the clamping pressure of the first eccentric device to the tube 35 either by direct contactbetween the tubes or, if the sleeve 41, Fig. 4, is turnable on the sleeve 1, by a ring 49<SP>1</SP> - which may have-plain ends or be constructed as described in Specification 770,552. The eccentric 43 has helical teeth curved to fit the pipe 6.
