Abstract

1,020,654. Pipe couplings. J. W. MULLINS. Sept. 21, 1964, No. 38356/64. Heading F2G. A valve device for a refrigerant system comprises a valve housing having a stepped part 14, internal and external screw-threads 16, 31, an outer, tapered seat 20, and an inner tapered, valve seat 30, and includes a valve pin 26 engaged with the screw-thread 31. The valve pin has a tapered seat 28 for sealing with the seat 30, a longitudinal slot 36 forming a gas passageway between the pin and the housing, and a transverse slot 32. A valve depressor includes a connector engaged with the screwthread 16, a resilient seat for contacting the seat 20 of the housing and a tubular member journalled by the end of the connector and having a valve depressing end part freely received by the slot 32 in the valve pin whereby manual rotation of the tubular member in opposite directions seats and unseats of the valve pin. In a modification the housing is secured to and laterally of the refrigerant pipe and the valve pin has an extension provided with a pointed end which pierces the pipe when the valve is screwed home.
