Abstract
1,116,235. Crimping yarns. JOSEPH BANCROFT & SONS CO. 14 Oct., 1965 [26 Oct., 1964], No. 43659/65. Heading D1F, In a stuffer-box crimping apparatus, a core 21 of crimped yarn emerging from the heated compression chamber is immediately advanced through, and is cooled within, a continuation of the chamber in registration therewith formed by a cage consisting of a series of periperically spaced members or rods 19 between which sets of pivoted fingers 23 extend to engage the core on opposite sides and apply adjustable compacting and retarding pressure thereto. Treating liquid e.g. dye, may be supplied through axial passages in pivot shafts 25 thence to internal passages in the fingers 23 and discharge into the crimped material through openings 37 and additionally through nozzles 41 terminating in felt pads 43. A feeler 60 resting lightly on the top of .the core 21 is carried by the control arm 61 of a micro-switch whereby the feed of yarn into the chamber is controlled to maintain the withdrawal point of the crimped yarn at a predetermined level. A traversing guide feeds the yarn so that it is packed uniformly into the crimping chamber throughout the whole elongate cross-section thereof.
