Abstract
908,979. Yarn treating apparatus. MONSANTO CHEMICAL CO. June 2, 1959 [July 21, 1958], No. 18863/59. Class 15(1). An apparatus for treating a continuously advancing assembly of individual lengths of yarn comprises in combination a sizebath, one or more heated drums, means for separating the yarn assembly into individual lengths of yarn, a first drying means, means for reassembling the individual lengths of yarn, a second drying means and yarn finish applying means. As shown in Fig. 1, yarn assembly 11 is passed through size-bath 14 and excess size may be removed by passage of the yarn assembly between squeeze rolls 16 before the yarn assembly is passed over heated drums 17a and 17b. These drums may be internally heated by means of steam. Means 19 is provided for separating yarn assembly 11 into individual lengths of yarn 12 which are then partially divided by the first drying means. Means 19 may comprise splitting rods 31 and a plurality of pairs of support posts 29 spaced apart, each of the pairs being adjustable vertically. The first drying means may be electrically heated means, e.g. quartz lamps 32. The second drying means may be heated rolls 17. If desired an asbestos shield may be interposed beneath the path of the yarn assembly and above the first drying means.
