Abstract
111,525. Mackenzie, J. W. (King Petroleum Power Co). Nov. 29, 1916. Spray carburettors.-In a carburettor employing two or more fuels, the air supply is controlled automatically by suction of the engine, and the mixture throttle is interconnected with the valve by which the selected fuel is admitted. The main air inlet is fitted with a pivoted disk valve 7 which stands vertically at full suction and tends to be closed by a weight 8. An inclined vane 14 on the side of the valve which ascends in opening, has a central slot to prevent the formation of a pocket of low pressure or an eddy in the air current. The valve 7 can be manually operated by a lever. A vertically moving disk 72 in the air current above the valve 7 controls, by means of link-work 75, 81, an auxiliary air valve in a passage 70 and also a choke valve 78 placed immediately above the mixture throttle 16. The air passes through a Venturi tube 2, to which fuel is supplied through nozzles 19<1>, 33 Fig. 5. At high suctions, a ring valve 5, sliding on the outside of the tube 2, rises to allow some of the air to pass abound the tube. The fuels are supplied to two similar float chambers through passages 28, Fig. 7. controlled by valves 29. The outlet from each chamber is through an annular space 32 surrounding the pipe 28. A rotary valve 24 connects either float chamber to the nozzles 19<1>, 33 through passages 23, 34, there being an intermediate position in which both passages are closed. The valve 24 and the throttle 16 are operated simultaneously by a single lever 58, Fig. 12, pivoted on an arm 57 projecting from a slotted sleeve 50, 52. Fig. 2, which actuates the throttle 16, the lever 58 having a pin 61 engaging an arm 62 to actuate the valve. The movement of the arms 57, 62 is limited by stops 63, 65, and the arms can be manipulated so as to. supply either fuel with the throttle open or closed or at any intermediate position.
