Abstract

[Also in Divisions E1 and E2] A holding and locating device for two overlapping structural members, for example reinforcing rods for reinforcing concrete, comprises spaced parts capable of surrounding both members in sideby-side relationship and a wire 12 connecting the two parts. The ends of the wire 12 extend beyond the parts into two U-shaped portions which prevent the passage of an associated member through the associated part. In a further embodiment, the parts comprise loops of flat metal strip joined by two metal strips, further metal strips being welded across the free ends of the loops to form abutments for the members (Fig. 3, not shown). The loops of flat metal strip may be in a figure-of-eight configuration (Fig. 4, not shown) or each part may be formed of two separate circular loops welded together (Fig. 5, not shown). The parts may be of figure-of-three or 8-shape (Figs. 6, 7, not shown). In some cases the major portions of the members may be in axial alignment and, in such cases, the end of one of the members is shaped to form an inflexion. The device comprises two parts formed as loops, one loop being, formed with a; stop for the other member. The parts are joined by wires which project beyond the loop to guide the member provided with the inflexion and the inflexion seats on the end of the other member (Figs. 8, 9, 10, not shown). The device may also consist of two loop-shaped parts welded to one of the members, the inner one of which being provided with, an abutment for the other member (Fig. 11, not shown). Alternatively, each of the members may be provided with a loop-shaped part, each loop shaped part being provided with a base to form an abutment for the other member.
