Abstract

A surface finish for exterior or interior use in the building industry comprises a major proportion, by weight, of an aggregate of stone chippings and a minor proportion of a binder comprising a thermoplastic resin in the form of a water-based emulsion and water-repellent silicone substance consisting at least in part of an aqueous emulsion. The binder may be a homopolymer and a copolymer of vinyl acetate or a polymer of a derivative of acrylic or methacrylic acid. The chippings may be of marble or granite and may be of different colours. The finish may also comprise a fungicide, e.g. phenylmercury acetate and a cellulosic compound, e.g. hydroxyethyl cellulose. In an Example are used polyvinyl acetate aqueous emulsion, vinyl acetate-vinyl chloride copolymer aqueous emulsion, silicone emulsion, granular silicone compound, phenyl mercury acetate, hydroxyethyl cellulose, stone chippings and water.ALSO:In an Example a composition is prepared comprising: polyvinyl acetate aqueous emulsion, vinyl acetate-vinyl chloride copolymer aqueous emulsion, silicone emulsion, granular silicone compound, phenyl mercury acetate as a fungicide, hydroxy ethyl cellulose, stone chippings and water.
