Abstract

Bearing materials comprise polytetrafluoroethylene in powder, granular or fibrous form uniformly distributed throughout and firmly incorporated in a cured furane resin. The compositions may also comprise graphite, molybdenum disulphide, whiting, lead oxide, asbestos powder or fibre and metals, e.g. lead and bronze powders and fibres. The compositions may be moulded or applied to backings to give bearings. An example describes a composition comprising furane resin, graphite, lead powder and polytetrafluoroethylene.ALSO:Bearings comprise substrates coated with materials comprising a fluorocarbon resin in powder, granular or fibrous form uniformly distributed throughout and firmly incorporated in a cured furane resin matrix. The substrate may be a metal strip, e.g. of steel or aluminium, or a fabric, rubber or laminated plastic. The material may also comprise graphite, molybdenum disulphide, whiting, lead oxide, asbestos and lead and bronze powders and fibres. In an example a material comprising polytetrafluoroethylene, furane resin, graphite and lead powder is spread and moulded on a strip of degreased and shot-blasted aluminium.
