Abstract

Bearing materials comprise polytetrafluoroethylene in powder, granular or fibrous form uniformly distributed throughout and firmly incorporated in a cured amino resin matrix. The amino resin may be a urea/or melamine/formaldehyde condensate, and the compositions may also comprise graphite, molybdenum disulphide, whiting, lead oxide, asbestos powder or fibre, and metals, e.g. lead and bronze powders and fibres. The compositions may be moulded or applied to backings to give bearings. Examples describe bearing materials comprising polytetrafluoroethylene, whiting, lead powder and (I) urea/formaldehyde resin, hexamine, zinc sulphate, zinc stearate and graphite and (II) melamine/formaldehyde resin, hexamine thiocyanate, stearic acid and molybdenum disulphide.
