Abstract
1,112,622. Induction motors. MOULINEX S.A. 20 May, 1965 [22 May, 1964], No. 21429/65. Heading H2A. [Also in Division F2] An electromagnetic brake for an electric motor 12 comprises a braking surface 15 on a fan 14 fast with the rotating motor shaft, a brake shoe 16 on a pivoted lever 19 which is normally biased by a spring 29 to apply the shoe 16 against the surface 15 to brake the motor and an electromagnet, the movable M-shaped armature 17 of which is fixed to the lever 19. Energization of the electromagnet coil 23 in series with one of the motor windings moves the armature 17 against the stator 10 of the motor to complete the magnetic circuit of the electromagnet and pivots the lever 19 to release the shoe 16 from engagement with the surface 15. The electric motor windings are in two sections which may be connected in series or parallel so that the current in the electromagnet coil is the same whether the motor is supplied at 110 or 220 volts.
