Abstract
1,112,247. Wrapping machines; packages. IMPERIAL TOBACCO CO. (OF GREAT BRITAIN & IRELAND) Ltd. 20 April, 1967 [31 May, 1966; 18 Jan., 1967], Nos. 24084/66 and 2592/67. Heading B8C. An apparatus for feeding a length of web material 12 to an article, e.g. a batch of cigarettes 7, for wrapping it into a block-ended package, comprises a knife arrangement 5, 6 that makes perforations across the web, e.g. of tissue backed foil, in two places 13, 14 before severing the length 15 from a reel 1. As shown, the knife 6 rotates so that firstly a blade 8, notched along the edge (11), Fig. 2 (not shown), as it reaches the stationary blade 5 cuts perforations 14, then a similarly notched blade 10 cuts a further set of perforations 13, and lastly a blade 9 severs the length of web at 15. Alternatively, the perforating may be done by a single notched blade separate from the severing blade. The perforations 13, 14 enable the upper or cap end of the wrapper to be removed from the cigarettes 7 by tearing. The cigarettes 7 are fed along by conveyer means. The web is fed by driven rollers 3, 4.
