Abstract

Addition compounds of ZnO and SiO2, containing 2-25% by weight ZnO, are prepared by dispersing finely divided ZnO, Zn(OH)2 or ZnCO3 (surface area exceeding 3 m2/g B.E.T.), preferably as a freshly precipitated suspension or paste, in a freshly prepared acid (pH 2.5-6) SiO2 suspension, the SiO2 when dry having a surface area of 50-300 m2/g B.E.T., and recovering the addition products so formed, preferably after heating to a temperature not greater than 90 DEG C.
