Abstract

1,111,781. Plucking poultry. COPE, WHELON & CO. Ltd. 11 Feb., 1966 [15 Feb., 1965; 4 Aug., 1965], Nos. 6427/65 and 33392/65. Heading A2U. An apparatus for plucking poultry comprises a plurality of plucking units 1 and 2 arrangedon each side of the path of travel of the poultry. Unit 1 comprises rotatable drum having rubber fingers 10 extending radially therefrom; Unit 2 comprises a plurality of devices 14 each driven by its own motor and each comprising a plurality of fingers 19 extending parallel to the rotational axis of the device. The fingers 19 may be mounted in a disc 16 having a circumferential flange 34 extending partly along the fingers to counteract the effect of the centrifugal force. Instead of flange 34 another disc having apertures for the fingers rnay be located at distance from the disc 16. The units 1 and 2 are swingably mounted in a framework and means are provided for holding the units in different positions. Each unit is disposed opposite a unit of the same or different type on the other side of the path of travel. A conveyer 6 may be positioned below the path of travel to collect the plucked feathers.
