Abstract
918,272. Poultry-plucking machines. BUDD, A. G. Nov. 12, 1959 [Nov. 12, 1958], No. 36403/58. Class 28 (2). The machine comprises a skeleton arm formed of a number of spaced discs or annuli 1 carried by plates 2, 4 and rotated by a shaft 7. The discs or annuli themselves act as grippers or, preferably, carry spring gripper plates 17 tending to come together at their free ends, there being one or more grippers between each pair of members 1 and the grippers in adjacent spaces being displaced angularly so that they are helically disposed round the drum. As the drum rotates, the grippers are opened by blades 18, preferably of resin-bonded fibrous material, mounted in comb-like fashion on bolts 19, 20 outside the drum, the grippers being held open until they reach the edge of the plucking aperture in the casing 12 of the machine. The grippers are opened opposite the discharge opening 13 of the casing through which is induced a draught of air which also serves to raise the feathers to be plucked.
