919,518. Poultry, plucking. ONUFROWSKI, S., and LAGUNA, H. Sept. 26, 1960 [Nov. 9, 1959], No. 33038/60. Class 28 (2). A poultry-plucking machine is provided with a number of pairs of jaws 4 arranged helically around a rotatable drum 3, each pair consisting of a fixed jaw 4a and a jaw 4b movable towards and from the fixed jaw. The jaws of each pair are pivoted on pins mounted in the drum and are spring-pressed so that normally they tend to swing to open position. Each fixed jaw is attached to a sleeve 14 secured in the drum while the movable jaws are attached to a sleeve 12 slidable in the drum under the control of a spring 15 and a pusher 13 slidable in the sleeve 14. The piston is engaged by a member 13 pivoted on a pin 20 and rocked against the action of a spring 21 by a cam 17 on the shaft 1 on which the drum rotates. The machine is enclosed in a casing having an opening through which the bird is introduced, guards being provided to protect the skin of the bird and the operator. A flow of air is induced in the casing to remove the plucked feathers. A counterweighted hook is provided for supporting the bird during plucking.
