Abstract
1,111,424. Doffing wound balls. CROON & LUCKE MASCHINENFABRIK G.m.b.H. 23 July, 1965 [23 April, 1965], No. 31525/65. Headings D1D, D1F and D1J. A ball winding machine of the typefor example as in Specification 1,060,881- having a gripper arranged to remove a wound ball from its winding head and to drop it into a receptacle 8 is modified by the inclusion of a plate 11 which is pivoted into a position above receptacle 8 to deflect the ball into a second receptacle 9 if the ball contains too many knots. Thread 59 being wound passes between a semi-circular member (55) and a resilient member of a thread feeler F and each knot in the thread causes the resilient ,member to actuate a micro switch in the circuit of an electromagnet. The electromagnet releases a catch member from engagement with a bar 36 which moves under the action of springs 38a 38b one notch to the left for each knot before the catch re-engages the bar. An. arm 23 pivoted at 24 carries a rider 29 the position of which is adjustable depending on the acceptable number of knots and which when engaged by a bolt 37 on bar 36 causes arm 23 to pivot and thus rod 12 to be pulled away from a locking position with disc 15 of plate 11 so that the plate falls under gravity into the ball deflecting position. After a wound ball has been doffed a cam disc 21 is rotated to push rod 16 upwardly to return plate 11 to the locking position.
