Abstract

Winding apparatus, of the type having a series of winding stations B movable relative to a unit C which knots broken threads or supplies fresh cop packages, has means to determine the absence of a cop package in the delivery position 30 of the unit C and, in which eventuality, to prevent the interruption of the relative movement when a new cop package is required, but allow the relative movement to stop when there are broken ends to be knotted by unit C. As described the stations B are mounted on a rotatable turret D and each have yarn feelers 50, 51 to determine respectively the exhaustion of cop 2a or a broken thread and to actuate, through armature 18a, 19a of electromagnets 18b, 19b, switches 18 and 19. The cop holder 30 which is pivoted into a cop delivering position by lever 31 has a trap door which in the absence of a cop is spring-pressed upwardly to actuate a switch (43). This switch causes the cop magazine to be rotated by an indexing lever to supply a new cop to holder 30. The control circuit, Fig. 5 (not shown), prevents the relative movement being interrupted when both switches 19 and 43 are closed-i.e. when, although a fresh cop is required, one is not available in position 30.
