Abstract
1,064,097. Winding yarns; knotting; counting knotting attempts. W. REINERS. March 20, 1964 [March 21, 1963], No. 11881/64. Headings D1F and D1J. A combined knotting and knot testing device includes a probe 5 that is brought into operation after a knot tying cycle to tighten the knot and check whether a knot has been effectively tied. If not a counter 26 is actuated. If, after a predetermined number of knotting cycles, an effective knot has not been tied the counter 26 causes the winding station to be halted in a manner known per se so that further knotting attempts are prevented. A knotting cycle is performed by rotating the cam 6. Rotation of the cam 6 causes the lever 8 to move the worm segment 9 to turn a worm wheel 10. Rotation of the worm wheel 10 turns the hollow spindle 23 and thence a dished wheel 11 actuating the tying beaks 12, 13. Rotating with the cam 6 in a cam 7 which, through a spring biassed bolt 15, can rock a bell crank lever 14 to push the probe 5 against the knotted yarn. If the yarn ends are not effectively knotted the probe 5 is moved to the position shown in broken lines thus allowing the bell-crank lever 14 to swing to a setting in which the contacts 16, 17 are closed to index the counter 26 one step. The cycle is repeated for each knot tying attempt until the permitted number of attempts have been made. If during these attempts the thread ends are correctly knotted the probe 5 engages the thread and prevents the bell-crank lever 14 from being moved to a setting at which the contacts 16, 17 are closed. Instead, the spring biased bolt 15 is moved relatively to the bellcrank lever 14 to close the contacts 31, 32 to cause the counter 26 to be returned to zero. One knotting device may serve a plurality of winding machines, each machine having its own counting device. For this purpose sliding contacts, for example 27, 28, may be included in the electrical circuitry between the knotting and counting devices. In such cases the knotting device, even if a knotting attempt is a failure, preferably moves on in turn to the other machines requiring attendance before returning to the station at which the knotting was a failure to repeat the knotting operation.
