Abstract
1,110,284. Centrifugal separators. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. 16 June, 1966 [22 June, 1965], No. 26414/66. Heading B2P. [Also in Division G1] The solid component of a slurry is partially separated centrifugally to present it for analysis by X-ray fluorescence techniques (see Division G1). Slurry contained in a reservoir (26, Fig. 3, not shown) is pumped (at 25) into the test chamber 10 (Fig. 1) through an inlet tangential to the cylindrical wall of the chamber. The vortex flow induces partial separation of the solid from the slurry and tends to form a continuous packed layer at the window 13 of the chamber. The distance between the baffle of the outlet pipe, axial with the chamber and this window 13 is adjustable, by screwing the pipe through the chamber top wall. The window 13 is a polyester film supported by a nylon mesh. A flange 12 holding the window 13 in position can be tightened to increase the tension on the window, for which sealing gaskets 17 are provided. A protective layer 23 in the centre of the window, prevents abrasion of the window by the slurry.
